My 7-Year Journey from 250 lbs to healthy with the Carnivore Diet

For years, I struggled with my weight, hitting my heaviest at 250 lbs after gaining 70 lbs from my original weight of 180 lbs. I battled daily with sugar and carb cravings, and despite trying various diets—like eating just chicken and broccoli or juicing vegetables and fruits—I couldn’t find a sustainable solution. Each diet worked for a while, but the weight always crept back on, leaving me more defeated every time.

The constant exhaustion was overwhelming, and I tried to convince myself that it was just a normal part of life. But deep down, I knew something wasn’t right. I was stressed out by trying to follow the standard dietary guidelines, counting calories, hitting all the numbers, and eating food that I didn’t even enjoy. My stomach often hurt, but I pushed through, believing this was the price I had to pay to lose weight and be healthy.

Eventually, I reached a breaking point. I gave up on all the diets and started eating whatever I wanted—two honey buns a day, chips, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, and more. The only thing I stuck to was drinking zero-sugar drinks and water, but that wasn’t enough to counteract the damage I was doing to my body. I felt like I was spiraling out of control, gaining weight, and losing any hope of ever getting healthy again. I was on a path where I wouldn’t be able to be here mentally and physically for my family, and that terrified me.

Then came June 21, 2024. I visited a friend who I hadn’t seen in a while, and I was shocked by his transformation. He had lost 40 lbs by eating only meat for six months. At first, I felt embarrassed, sitting there stuffing my face with pizza and cookies while he ate a carnivore pizza. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was doing something wrong, but I wasn’t ready to change just yet.

It wasn’t until I was driving home that night, feeling utterly exhausted and disgusted with myself, that something inside me snapped. I was scared—scared of having a heart attack or facing all the health risks associated with the weight I was carrying—but at the same time, I was so depressed that it didn’t seem to matter anymore. I decided to try the Carnivore Diet the very next day, on June 22, 2024. What did I have to lose?

Starting the Carnivore Diet was a challenge, especially after years of trying to follow conventional advice that didn’t work for me. But the simplicity of focusing on nutrient-dense, animal-based foods was a relief. The first few weeks were tough as my body adjusted, but then something incredible happened. My energy levels started to rise, my blood sugar stabilized, and the mental clarity I gained was something I hadn’t experienced in years.

By August 23, just two months after starting the Carnivore Diet, I had lost 39 pounds, bringing my weight down to 211 lbs. The changes in my body and mind were astounding. I no longer felt weighed down by stress or the pressure to follow complicated dietary guidelines. Instead, I found freedom in the simplicity of the diet.

Some people might say the Carnivore Diet is restrictive because you’re limited to beef, bacon, butter, and eggs. But for me, it’s been truly liberating. From a Christian standpoint, I feel like I’m being a good steward of the body and life that God gave me. This way of eating has allowed me to take care of myself in a way that honors the life I’ve been given.

Looking back, I realize how much the standard advice I was following wasn’t working for me. The Carnivore Diet gave me a way to break free from the cycle of stress and failure. It wasn’t easy at first, but the results speak for themselves. I’m healthier, happier, and more in control of my life than I’ve been in years.

If you’re feeling stuck like I was, I encourage you to consider a ketogenic diet, whether it’s true keto or the Carnivore Diet. It might just be the change you need to turn things around and truly start living the life you’re meant to live.
